Working dogs

The Groenendael is a working breed.
That means these dogs need to have strong characters and have a lot of working potential.

They need challenge in the form or training.

So they can develop well and use their energy in a positive way.

The dog sports has different forms such as IPO, Agility and Obedience.
I prefer the IPO program because this program got the courage, stability and durability of the dog being tested.
Below you can read what that means.

IPO
The IPO (International Prüfungs Ordnung) program is an international program and is made by different working breeds approved by the Federation Internationale Cynologique. FCI is a collaboration of many international kennel clubs.
The working dog breeds include the Belgian, Dutch and German shepherds, Doberman, Rottweiler, Boxer and Bouvier.
The training is given both in groups and purebred dogs circle circuit at NBG groups (Dutch Union of Use Dogs).
This program has three levels of difficulty: IPO-1 is the "easiest" IPO-3 and the "most difficult".
Before a dog can do IPO1 exam is a basic qualification necessary, VZH/BH diploma.
VZH/BH stands for Secure Traffic Dog or BegleitHund. This is in addition to the appeal also the social behavior of dogs compared to animal and human.
Examination Regulations: IPO VZH Sph-UV-2009.

The training / IPO consists of three components, namely:
-Tracking  - Section A.
-Obedience - Section B.
-Manwork - Section C.

The Components:
- Tracking (Section A) of this section, the dog should develop a trace of 300 to 800 for shifting the track 20 to 45 minutes old. On this track are a number of articles which the dog must pay (to indicate that something is the guide through there to lie / sit or stand or play fetch). The track can be anticipated in a meadow, a field or woods.
The search with the dog can be trained further to obtain a SpH 1 or 2 degrees (bloodhound).

- Obedience (Section B): This section consists of a number of obedience exercises. Like heelwork, with and without the lease, sit and go through, lay down and stand and call retrieve. Furthermore, the dog must remain down with distraction and the dog has to retrieve the dumbbell. The retrieving will be on the ground and with a jump over a fence and a climbing wall (A fence). Also, the dog has to be send out with down. During the heelwork there will be two shots fired from a pistol and the shot strength is tested.

- Manwork (section C): This section is what most people found most spectacular. In this part the dog has to search for the helper and hold and bark. (searching of hiding places). If the helper is found, the dog must indicate this to the conductor by barking (guarding). Then there are a number of "combat operations"  where the dog will be assessed on the bite in the arm, strength, courage and fighting spirit and obedience (the command to let loose). Obedience therefore assumes an important place in the protection work. The exercises are more difficult when the level increases.
